So, how exactly does Satellite Direct work?
Well, at the risk of getting overly complex, there are essentially two methods of getting satellite tv streamed right to your pc – a “traditional” PCTV Card/satellite dish set-up or Satellite TV for PC software applications.
1. PCTV Cards
A PCTV card is a hardware component which gives your home pc (or Apple computer) the functional capability to perform just like a tv, enabling you to view television programs on your desktop even as it operates other applications simultaneously. By having a PCTV card installed, your personal computer acquires the ability to receive tv signals. Having said that, you continue to need a satellite dish and receiver in order to receive the satellite signal and send it for your personal computer system. In other words, if you don't instal a satellite dish, a PCTV card will not get you satellite television.
2. Satellite television for pc Software packages
Satellite television for pc software programs (like Satellite Direct) work very differently compared to the old fashioned satellite dish/PCTV card system. As opposed to you receiving and decoding satellite tv signals at your location, the signals are received and decoded at the satellite to pc provider's end and then transmitted live to your pc. If you think about this, it is kind of like your current cable television company. With cable, all of the channels which you enjoy are received by your cable television company through satellite and then “streamed” into your own home through the cable that runs to your Television. Satellite direct tv performs much the same way but it incorporates lots more channels than cable television and it is transmitted to your home pc through the internet.
You don't need a satellite dish nor do you need any kind of specific hardware. The only thing required is the software package that enables your pc to hook up to the service together with a high speed internet connection.
